Oracle Billing Care is Oracle's web-based Customer Service Representative (CSR) application built on top of Oracle BRM. It gives customer service agents a browser-based interface to manage accounts, subscriptions, payments, adjustments, and bills — all driving BRM opcodes under the hood via the PCM Java API. This course covers everything from understanding the Billing Care architecture and deployment model to hands-on customization: UI overrides, custom REST endpoints, PCM Java API calls, and role-based access control. Whether you are a functional analyst who wants to understand what Billing Care can do out-of-the-box, or a developer who needs to extend it with custom opcode integrations, this course gives you a complete picture.
How Billing Care Connects to BRM
1
Browser (Angular / ADF UI)
CSR agent interacts with account, subscription, billing screens
↓
Billing Care REST Controller
Java layer inside
BillingCare.war on WebLogic — handles HTTP requests
↓
PCM Java API
Builds flists and calls BRM opcodes (standard PCM_OP_* and custom opcodes)
↓
BRM CM → FM → DB
Standard BRM processing pipeline — billing, subscriptions, payments
Course Curriculum
| # | Module | Topics Covered | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Billing Care Architecture & Deployment | What Billing Care is and where it sits in the BRM stack • WebLogic deployment model • BillingCare.war vs BillingCareCust.war overlay pattern • WAR shared library versioning via prodplan.xml |
1–2 hrs |
| 2 | Out-of-the-Box Functionality | Account search & overview • Subscription management screens • Billing & invoice views • Payment capture & adjustment flows • Write-off and collection actions • Role-based menu and field visibility (RBAC) | 1–2 hrs |
| 3 | UI Customization (CSS / JavaScript) | Override OOB JavaScript files via same-named files in BillingCareCust.war • CSS overrides via custom stylesheet • Show/hide fields and buttons • Adding custom banners, labels, and UI widgets • Practice: change a label on the Account Overview screen |
1–2 hrs |
| 4 | Configuration-Based Customization | Feature configuration via bc-config.xml and billing-care.properties • Screen config and menu items • Role-based field and button visibility via XML • Practice: hide Write-Off button for non-admin roles |
1 hr |
| 5 | PCM Java API | Flist, Poid, Connection, Opcode classes • Mapping BRM C concepts to Java: pin_flist_t* → Flist, PCM_OP → connection.opcode() • Custom field access via CustomFld.* • Reading and setting standard BRM fields from Java • Error handling via PCM error codes |
1–2 hrs |
| 6 | Custom REST Endpoints | Adding new REST resources in BillingCareCust.war • Calling custom BRM opcodes (e.g. PCM_OP_CUSTOM_GET_ENTITLEMENT) from a REST controller • JSON response construction from BRM flist output • Practice: build an endpoint that calls a custom opcode and returns entitlement data to the UI |
1–2 hrs |
| 7 | Overriding OOB REST Resources | How same-named classes in BillingCareCust.war take precedence over OOB classes • Adding extra custom BRM fields to existing account read responses • Wrapping OOB behavior with custom pre/post logic • Practice: extend the account read endpoint with a custom field |
1 hr |
| 8 | Build, Deploy & Troubleshooting | Building BillingCareCust.war with Maven/Ant • Redeploying via WebLogic Admin Console • WebLogic shared library versioning — bumping ImplementationVersion without breaking the link • Reading WebLogic logs for Billing Care errors • How BRM PIN_ERR_* codes surface through Java to the UI |
1 hr |
* Demo environment not available. Theory-based instruction with comprehensive documentation and recorded demos.

| BRM C Concept | Billing Care Java Equivalent |
pin_flist_t * |
Flist object (PCM Java API) |
PCM_OP(ctxp, PCM_OP_CUSTOM_*, ...) |
connection.opcode(opcode, flags, flist) via PCM Java API |
Custom BRM fields (PIN_FLD_*) |
Same field IDs accessed via PCM Java field descriptors |
PIN_FLD_POID |
